It Pays To Be Certified

A Certification is an accredited qualification awarded by an approved institution which provides evidence of the recipient’s competence or proficiency in specific field.

If you are already skilled in a Technical & Vocational Education and Training (TVET) related field, for example Auto-mechanics, Hairdressing, Graphics Design or Electrical Installation, you can become more marketable by becoming formally certified in your area of expertise through the Assessment of Prior Learning (APL) process. You do not need to pursue a course. The certification process involves contacting the Saint Lucia TVET Council expressing your desire to become certified. When approved, you will be assigned a certified Assessor who will conduct your certification process.

There are currently two TVET qualifications available in Saint Lucia – St Lucia National Vocational Qualification (SLNVQ) and the regional competency based qualification is the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ). The former SLNVQ is recognised locally the CVQ makes the holder eligible to worker anywhere within the CARICOM region and beyond.

Certification is not only limited to those who have successfully completed courses through our programme or other means. Individuals already skilled in TVET areas can apply for certification through the Assessment of Prior Learn (APL) route.
